Tools Rider Adam Melling posted the highest wave score of the day on Round2 at the Billabong Rio Pro

Adam Melling (AUS), 27, led the day’s proceedings with superior barrel-riding skills. The powerful natural-footer charged into two deep tubes, earning the day’s highest single wave score of 9.67 out of 10 en route to the day’s highest heat total of 17.00 out of 20.“I was pretty happy with that one,” Melling said. “I snuck out of that first one that was a bit of a close out and on my way back out that other one doubled up real well and ran off. I was stoked to get that one on the way back out. It was sucking out off of the bank pretty well. It feels really good to get good waves in a heat. They’re definitely out there.”

Adam Melling wins ROUND 1 at 2012 QUIKSILVER PRO GOLD COAST VS Joel Parkinson and Dane Reynolds

TOOLS Adam Melling (AUS), 26, took out an action packed heat against Joel Parkinson (AUS), 30, and event wild card Dane Reynolds (USA), 26 at QUIKSILVER PRO GOLD COAST ROUND 1. All three surfers lit up the Snapper lineup with massive turns and deep tubes, but it was Melling who put his Lennox Head pointbreak experience to good use by catching the best waves. “It’s feels great to win that one!” Melling said. “I saw in the news and they were calling it the Dane (Reynolds) versus Parko (Joel Parkinson) heat and I was thinking – what about me, I’m in this one too. Both of those guys surf unreal and I happy to get the win, my boards are feeling good and my body is fit and I’m hoping for a big year.”

We had a event of ''SUSHI TIME WITH ADAM MELLING'' at Aloha SurfManly while Australian Open of Surfing is on.
All Sushi was gone with only 5 mins....lol

Melling's Interview by ASP International
Melling found himself inside a game-changer of a tube ride, traveling for more than 100 yards and disappearing for six seconds, but he failed to emerge through the curtain of whitewater.
“It would have been good to go one better than the last contest, but I guess that’s how it is,” said Melling, from Australia’s Lennox Head. “But if there’s barrels and John John’s around I’m sure he’s in them somewhere.”

On his tube ride that was the longest of the final: “It wasn’t that great! I didn’t make it! But it would have been good. I was coming through it, I raced, and I got through one hard bit and then just into the next and it dropped out on me. I thought I had it there for a little bit. It would have been nice to come out of it.
“The Triple Crown means everything. Since I was young coming over here I’ve always wanted to win it, which would be amazing. Last year I did alright out at Pipe but I’m guessing this year’s going to be a little bit different. I think it’s going to be big Pipe.
I’ll have to get out there this week and get a bit of practice in.”
